Goals of the Program

Smithfield Foods, Inc., through its Smithfield Luter Foundation, and Christopher Newport University have established the Smithfield Foods Scholars Program to reward outstanding students and nurture an appreciation for the art of leadership and the importance of citizenship. The purpose of the program is to educate a new generation of committed and highly effective leaders in the United States.

Students from throughout the United States are chosen to participate in Christopher Newport University's highly respected President's Leadership Program. Through a rigorous academic curriculum, guest speakers, community service, study abroad and internships these students are empowered to become caring, knowledgeable and effective leaders in America and the world.
